Partner Remuneration Surveys

Vencon Research is a leading global provider of niche compensation research and reports to the consulting industry. Our clients represent more than 85 per cent of the world’s major consulting firms; from world-wide management consultancies, through to specialist boutique agencies in the IT and strategy consulting fields.

One of our core offerings comprises country-specific reports on the value of partner and VP remuneration. Partner and VP compensation is a complex issue, requiring that decision makers understand the performance criteria and structure that drive individual payments. It simply isn’t enough to know that a partner in Firm A earns 100 per cent more than their counterpart in competitor Firm B.

Our reports are in-depth and detailed, presenting a range of vital data in a manner that is accessible, intuitive and which facilitates decision-making at the strategic level. The range comprises 4 volumes of research. The first and second are country-specific reports which positions local practices amongst a target reference group and the remaining two volumes cover global trends. The package includes:

Part I – Remuneration Market Data (country-based reports): The objective of these reports is to allow participating clients to establish the competitiveness of their Partners’ and Vice Presidents’ total remuneration packages. This includes an overview of all relevant components of income, a tabular comparison of current and deferred cash remuneration (both target and actual), as well as detailed analyses of the remuneration components offered. The reports are “client-specific” and where available, a comparison of the client’s data to the market is provided (compa-ratios as well as the positioning within the market). The report will be provided in two output formats: a) the MS-Excel based ‘Data Worksheets’ and, b) the report in presentation format (pdf).

Part II – Firm Remuneration Structure (country report): This report allows participating clients to understand the structure, i.e. the remuneration system in place ‘behind the numbers’ presented in report Part I. This report thus provides detailed answers to questions such as “How are variable salaries calculated?”, “What are the thoughts behind the different base salary levels?” and “How do firms structure Partners’ vested income?”, etc.

Part III – Firm Remuneration Structure (global report): This report allows participating clients to understand the structure, i.e. the remuneration system in place ‘behind the numbers’ presented in report Part I. This report thus provides detailed answers to questions such as “How are variable salaries calculated?”, “What are the thoughts behind the different base salary levels?” and “How do firms structure Partners’ vested income?”, etc.

Part IV – Firm Performance Factors (global report): This report examines the statistics behind the results presented in report Part I by comparing the “key performance parameters” influencing firm profitability and thus Partner remuneration. The analyses completed include a) Target Firm Revenue per Partner, b) Target Income per ‘Average Target Firm Revenue per Partner’ (also referred to as “Average Revenue Responsibility Payout Ratio”), c) Target Firm Revenue per Consultant, Professional, Consultant & Support Staff, Incumbent, d) Average Target Sales Revenue per Partner, by Vencon Level, e) Weighting of Target Sales Revenue across Vencon’s three generic Levels, f) Target Income per Target Sales Revenue (also referred to as “Target Sales Revenue Payout Ratio”), g) Incumbent Structures, i.e. ratios of: Partner distribution across Vencon’s three generic Levels, Partners per 100 Incumbents, Partners to Consultants to Support Staff, Consultants per Partner, Support Staff per Partner, Consultants & Support Staff per Partner, Professionals per Support Staff, Consultants per Support Staff, h) Target and Achieved Income per 100 Incumbents, i) At Risk’ Income (percentage of Total Income ‘not guarantee’), j) Average time of advancement from entry-level Primary Partner to Senior Partner.

Our Approach

In addition to all the usual compensation data analyses of overall means, percentiles and ranges, Vencon Research reports include a full raw data set, enabling clients to further analyse the data in the manner best suited to their requirements. The data tables, graphics and executive summary are comprehensive and regularly revised in response to client needs.

Our reports cover more than 70 countries worldwide and provide actionable data for both mature and emerging consulting markets. Vencon Research works with more than 300 leading firms, ranging from independent strategy boutiques to the largest global firms. Our reports represent nearly 400,000 consultants and support staff ranging from junior reception staff to senior partners.

Cost Effective

Vencon Research is exclusively a remuneration data provider to the professional services industries; our research and production capabilities are designed for optimal delivery of these data. Clients can purchase a full report tailored to their line of business for less than a typical BA sign-on bonus. With a progressive discount structure, firms may purchase a dozen country reports for the cost equivalent of a single MBA sign-on bonus.

Within Vencon Research, data collection and validation is a continuous process. This enables us to produce salary and benefits reports at several points throughout the year containing the very latest information. ‘Snapshot’ data can be provided in new or rapidly developing markets where scheduled release dates are insufficient.

As their primary asset, management consulting firms are necessarily discreet about their professional staff. By observing the highest standards of data confidentiality, including commitment to any confidentiality agreement deemed appropriate by the client, Vencon Research has been able to establish its position of trust with the leading firms. Participant identity is divulged only to other participating firms and anonymity of individual data lines is paramount.

Our clients are the elite of the global management consulting industry and operate to the highest standards in the quality of their research, reports and presentations.  By setting the same high standards for ourselves, we enable clients to use our reports, graphics and tables in their original form when disseminating or presenting the information.

Primary Sourced

The principal sources of data are the HR directors and partners of the participant firms. All data are cross-validated against previous data sets to ensure consistency and accurate comparison in the data as presented.

Vencon Research's report data are sourced from the HR Directors and responsible Partners of the participating firms. Our generic reports can also be tailored to meet specific client needs, for example mapping their own data line against only upper-quartile competitors.
